E-Aadhar Card : Meaning

Aadhar Card is the unique identification provided by the Indian Government to every Indian citizen. Just like there is an official social security number provided to the citizens, in India, Aadhar cards are provided as identity proof for Indian citizens only. We can say that the Aadhaar card is the equivalent of the social security number of citizens of countries like the USA.  It is an all-inclusive identity proof that can be used for many purposes. Aadhaar cards have made work in official matters quite easy as the customers now have to produce only one identity proof instead of numerous other documents. Any person owning an Aadhaar card is automatically benefited by various government policies and he can avail himself of many government services. It is actually a 12 digit unique number which is different for every Indian citizen. However, in today’s world of technology and digitalization, even the Aadhar card has a digital form. This digital version of the Aadhar card available online on the official website of UIDAI ( Unique Identification Authority of India)  is called an E-Aadhaar card. This department (UIDAI) in India was set up in 2009 under the Ministry of Information Technology.

How is E-Aadhar Card Obtained?

An E-Aadhaar card is obtained by an individual when he/she applies for it online. It has the same credibility as the Aadhaar Card. The main difference is that the Aadhar card is obtained by post and is sent by UIDAI. This process can take up to 3 months. But once you have your Aadhaar card after going through all the formalities, you do not need to carry around a hard copy of your aadhar card. You can easily log in to UIDAI and download a PDF copy of your aadhar card. This will be your E-Aadhaar card. You can conveniently download your E-Aadhaar in a PDF format, get it printed and use it as an official document. It is as valid as the Aadhaar card which you get by postal services.
