what is csr registration for ngo ?
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) Department from 1st April, 2021 mandates all the NGOs like Trusts, Societies & Section-8 NGOs undertaking Corporate Social Responsibility to file eForm CSR-1 for all their CSR project. The NGOs are required to register with the Central Government if they want to undertake CSR activities funded by the Companies & Corporations. CSR- 1 form registration ensures effective monitoring of the CSR funding in India.
It is mandatory to file Form CSR-1 on MCA Portal by the NGOs to undertake CSR Activities. This rule is governed by Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013 (‘Act’) and Rule 4(1) and Rule 4(2) of the Companies (Corporate Social Responsibility Policy) Amendment Rules, 2021 (‘Rules’).
CSR FORM 1 APPLICABILITY
WHO IS eligible to receive csr funds ?
CSR 1 form registration process online is applicable on certain Entities who undertakes the CSR activities or through:
a) A Section 8 company, Registered Public Trust, Registered Society or registered under Section 12A and 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961, incorporated by the Company.
b) A Section 8 company, Registered Public Trust, Registered Society, registered or established by the Central or State Government.
c) Entities registered or established under a State Legislature or Act of Parliament.
d) A Section 8 company, Registered Public Trust, Registered Society or Company registered under Section 12A and 80G of the Income Tax Act having a track record of at least three preceding years.
Thus, an entity can undertake a CSR activity through a company registered under Section 8 NGO, registered society, public trust or an NGO or on its own as mentioned above. All the company that intends to undertake a CSR activity or all the above mentioned entities should mandatorily register themselves with the (ROC) Registrar of Companies by electronically filing the Form CSR-1.

WHAT IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT E-FORM CSR 1 on MCA?
Form CSR-1 is a form for registering entities to get CSR funding to undertake CSR Activities from the corporates. The information required to be filled while Form CSR 1 registration process are as follows:
1) Nature of the entity
You have to choose the appropriate Nature of your entity from the below provided list:
a) Section 8 Companies registered under Companies Act, 2013 who have Section 12A and Section 80G registrations under the Income Tax Act, 1961.
b) Registered Public Trust having Section 80G and Section 12A registrations under the Income Tax Act, 1961.
c) Registered Society having Section 12A and Section 80G registrations under the Income Tax Act, 1961.
d) Section 8 Companies registered under Companies Act, 2013 or Registered Society or Registered Trust established by the Central Government or State Government.
e) Entities registered under State Legislature or under an Act of Parliament.
2) Type of Entity
a) Enter the nature of your NGO whether it is Section-8 Company/ Trust/ Society or any other Registered NGO.
b) Registration Number or CIN number of the NGO.
c) Date of Incorporation, Address and Email ID of the entity. Email Id is to be verified through OTPs.
d) PAN of the entity.
3) Details of Directors
a) Details of Directors, Chairman, Secretary, CEO, Board of Trustees or Authorised Representatives of the entity.
b) DSC (Digital Signature Certificate) & DIN (Director Identification Number) of the Authorised Director or Trustee.
c) Digital Certification by any Practising Professional like CA, CS, or Cost Accountant.
4) Attachments
a) Copy of Certificate of Registration, &
b) Copy of PAN of Entity is to attached in .pdf format.
